An excerpt from our Rosary Booklet:
“Meditations on the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary”

Excerpt from the Second Mystery, “The Scourging at the Pillar”

The scourging that Jesus endured left countless wounds on his body. The Roman soldiers took delight in causing our Lord as much pain as possible, and the wounds inflicted were innumerable. These wounds from his scourging only worsened as he walked the road to Calvary. And yet, as his wounds increased, he did not allow them to control him. He increased in love and continued to walk towards the Cross. While we meditate on Jesus’ scourging, we can pray about all of the many wounds that we have endured, which can seem to multiply with each new experience, transition, family gathering, holiday, or milestone. Every major event can be a reminder of our family brokenness and may serve as an opportunity for new wounds. Those who scourged our Lord are those he loves dearly, as he loves all equally, and so, like us, the wounds inflicted are more painful because they come from those close to us. Even worse, the pain may make it feel as though our wounds are controlling us, and that no matter how much we try to heal and move forward, these wounds will just be reopened over and over. But we should not despair of this. There is hope and heavenly help!
